This Salute Meant A Lot To Her

It’s not a usual occurrence, a police official coming across his daughter in a public function as his senior. But this has happened to this proud father in Telangana.
Indian Masterminds Stories

A proud moment in a man’s life comes when he sees his child excel- but what if that child bags a position that goes higher than even his own in the same organization? Exactly this took place in the police department of Telangana, to the delight of both the man and his daughter.

An Extra-Ordinary Day:

Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr. A R Umamaheswara Sarma began his career in as a sub-inspector in the police service of Andhra Pradesh, back in 1985. He had been in the duty for three decades, when one day he was put on charge at the public meeting of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) at Kongara Kalan, in the exteriors of Hyderabad, Telangana. Just like any other day, he reached the location. But this particular day was going to be special, and he knew it.

The reason was his daughter, Ms. Sindhu Sharma. She had cleared her UPSC examinations and became an IPS officer in 2014. She was given the charge of Superintendent of Police of Jagityal district and on that particular day, she was to arrive in the same event as the in-charge of ensuring the safety of women gathered at the event.

A beautiful father-daughter moment

Coming face to Face on Duty:

In so many years, this was the first time that Mr. A R Umamaheswara Sarma came face to face with his daughter Ms. Sindhu Sharma, on duty! And it was definitely a moment that will be etched in his memory forever.

Being at a senior post than her father, when Ms. Sindhu entered the venue, she was honored with a salute, by her father, who was already present there.

Sarma says, “She is my senior officer. When I see her at work, I salute her.” It was a big day for both of them. Ms. Sindhu also commented about the moment, stating “I am very happy. This is a good opportunity for us to work together.”

Father and Daughter fulfilling their duties in Telangana

Nothing Official at Home:

If anybody is wondering how things might be at their home, we are happy to share with you that the officers are just like any other father-daughter duo in the world. Ms. Sindhu is a loving mother and daughter and Mr. Sarma a responsible father and a doting grandfather.

“Once we enter our home, we slip into our roles of father and daughter. We have never taken work or discussed work-related topics at home.”

In fact he explains with a smirk, that it’s not them but his wife who is the boss of the house inside their home! “At home, there is only one boss, and that is my wife, Sindhu’s mother. Nothing runs in our household without her approval.”

Their story will warm many hearts, we are sure!
