Mr. Mohan’s appointment comes at a time when India’s internal security and policy execution are in sharp focus. His rise to this prestigious position highlights not only his credentials but also the strategic importance of his career journey, one that has spanned various key ministries and government sectors.

Education and Early Career

Govind Mohan’s educational background laid the solid foundation for his illustrious career. A B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from the Institute of Technology at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), followed by a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, equipped him with analytical and managerial acumen early on. These qualifications have been critical in his ability to handle complex challenges, whether related to infrastructure, public policy, or international relations.

Entering the Indian Administrative Service in 1989, Mr. Mohan was allotted the Sikkim cadre, where he quickly made his mark. His early assignments in Sikkim gave him a deep understanding of governance at the grassroots level, helping him cultivate a pragmatic approach to public administration.

A Career Steeped in National Responsibilities

His tenure at the Ministry of Finance as Joint Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs was particularly notable.
