The UPSC story of Lucky Chauhan, a resident of Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district, can be said to have started when she was in nursery class. She won a competition in school and was awarded by the DM and SP. It was a proud moment for her as well as her parents and that award function day planted the UPSC thought in her father’s mind, as he wished to see his daughter as a government official like the SP and DM who awarded her.

Who would have known then that some years down the line, his daughter would fulfill his dream by becoming an IPS officer?

EARLY LIFE

Lucky Chauhan was born and brought up in Khurja village of the Bulandshahr district in Uttar Pradesh. Her father was a property dealer and her mother, a teacher. She was a good student all her life.

Ms. Chauhan opted for the science stream in the 12th grade. She then did her graduation in English Literature and History. After completing her graduation, she started working as an Assistant Welfare Administrator. However, her dream was to become an IPS officer. Without leaving her job, she started preparing for the UPSC exam simultaneously.

CLEARING UPSC

While working in the government job, Ms. Chauhan used to constantly remember her father’s words, when he had told her to become like the same SP and DM who had awarded her in the nursery grade. It was tough doing two things at the same time, but her dedication and her single-minded focus on becoming a civil servant overcame that pressure.

She failed to clear the exam in the first attempt. She sat for another attempt, but she did not manage to clear the exam in this attempt as well. However, in the second attempt, she understood well how she should overcome her mistakes and prepare for the exam in a better manner.

2013-batch IPS officer Lucky Chauhan

She finally cleared the exam in 2012 after three years of hardwork and secured All India Rank 246 to become an IPS officer of Tripura cadre.

She was allotted the Tripura cadre by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on the basis of her performance during her training. She has served in many important posts in the state till now.

Ms. Lucky Chauhan is currently posted as Superintendent of Police, Gomati district, Tripura.
