In an insignificant development, Eknath Shinde led Maharashtra Government has been given order of appointment of 2006 batch IAS officer Dr VN Suryawanshi as Excise Commissioner. He was working as the MMRDA Additional Commissioner.
The present existing Excise Commissioner Kanjilal Umap retires on November 30.
Earlier the 2006 batch IAS officer, Suryawanshi was Municipal Commissioner of the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation near Mumbai. He was also the district collector of Raigad and Gondia districts.
A Sainik School Alumnus, Satara, Suryawanshi was also the Chief Executive Officer of Palghar and Kolhapur Zilla Parishads. As ZP CEO, Kolhapur, he initiated the Operation Kayapalat programme to enhance public health parameters in Primary Health Centres. This transformed the basis for the national level Kayakalp Awards for public health organisations.
