Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh witnessed a major superannuation exercise on Monday, with 21 officers from the state administration and police departments retiring from government service. The retirees include three IAS officers, 10 IPS officers and eight Provincial Police Service (PPS) officers.

The retirements mark the conclusion of the official careers of several senior officers who were serving in important administrative, tourism, education and policing assignments across the state.

Three IAS Officers Retire

Among the officers retiring from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) are three senior bureaucrats who were holding key positions in the Uttar Pradesh government.

The retiring IAS officers include Ravindra Kumar, Secretary, Urban Development; Vedpati Mishra, Director General, Tourism; and Krishna Kumar Gupta, Special Secretary, Secondary Education.

Their retirement comes after their respective tenures in departments dealing with urban administration, tourism promotion and secondary education.

Ravindra Kumar

Ravindra Kumar, who was serving as Secretary, Urban Development, is among the three IAS officers who superannuated from service.

His posting in the Urban Development Department placed him in an important administrative role dealing with matters related to urban governance and development in the state.

Vedpati Mishra

Vedpati Mishra, who was serving as Director General, Tourism, also retired from service on Monday.

As DG Tourism, Mishra was associated with the state’s tourism administration and efforts aimed at promoting Uttar Pradesh as a major tourism destination.

Krishna Kumar Gupta

The third IAS officer retiring is Krishna Kumar Gupta, who was serving as Special Secretary, Secondary Education.

Gupta’s retirement adds another senior-level vacancy to the state’s administrative structure, particularly in a department responsible for secondary education-related administration.

10 IPS Officers Also Retire

The retirement exercise was particularly significant for the Uttar Pradesh Police, with 10 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers superannuating from service.

Among the senior IPS officers retiring are Mutha Ashok Jain, who was serving as Director General, Hire Services, Alok Priyadarshi, ACP, Varanasi Commissionerate, and Shahab Rashid Khan, DIG, UP 112.

The retirement of these officers comes at a time when the state police continues to undertake regular changes in senior and field-level postings.

Mutha Ashok Jain

Mutha Ashok Jain, serving as DG, Hire Services, is among the prominent IPS officers who retired on Monday.

His superannuation marks the end of a long career in the Uttar Pradesh Police and brings a senior-level position in the police establishment into the cycle of post-retirement administrative adjustments.

Alok Priyadarshi

Alok Priyadarshi, who was serving as Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Varanasi Commissionerate, also retired from service.

His retirement comes after his tenure in the Varanasi Commissionerate, one of Uttar Pradesh’s important urban policing jurisdictions.

Shahab Rashid Khan

Shahab Rashid Khan, serving as DIG, UP 112, was another senior IPS officer among those retiring.

UP 112 is the state’s emergency response service, making the DIG-level position an important operational assignment within the police organisation.

Eight PPS Officers Superannuate

Alongside the IAS and IPS officers, eight officers of the Provincial Police Service (PPS) also retired from government service on Monday.

The PPS officers form an important part of Uttar Pradesh’s policing structure and serve in a range of supervisory and field-level assignments across the state.

Their retirement completes the list of 21 officers who superannuated from the Uttar Pradesh administration and police departments during the latest retirement exercise.

21 Officers Retire in One Superannuation Exercise

The overall retirement figures can be summarised as follows:

  • IAS officers: 3
  • IPS officers: 10
  • PPS officers: 8
  • Total officers: 21

The retirement of 21 officers in a single superannuation exercise is expected to lead to administrative adjustments and the filling of vacancies through fresh postings or additional charges, particularly in positions held by senior officers.

The retirements also represent a generational transition within the Uttar Pradesh bureaucracy and police establishment, as officers who have completed their prescribed tenure make way for serving officers to take over their responsibilities.
