Delhi: In a significant development for the judiciary, three new judges took oath in the Delhi High Court on Thursday, increasing the court’s judicial strength from 40 to 43 judges. This follows the earlier swearing-in of six judges on July 21, which had raised the count from 34 to 40.
Judges Sworn In
The judges who were administered the oath of office include:
- Justice Shail Jain
- Justice Madhu Jain
- Justice Vinod Kumar
The oath-taking ceremony was held in the presence of sitting judges of the Delhi High Court, family members of the newly appointed judges, members of the Delhi High Court Bar Association, and other eminent guests.
Union Law Minister Highlights Significance
Union Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal acknowledged the development on social media. In his post, he stated that the appointments were made under the Constitution of India and after consultation with the Chief Justice of India.
Meghwal called the appointments a step forward in strengthening the Indian Constitution and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing judicial infrastructure and access to justice.
Delhi High Court Approaching Full Strength
With these three appointments, the Delhi High Court now has 43 judges, nearing its sanctioned strength of 60 judges (as per official figures). The recent spate of appointments is seen as a crucial move to reduce case backlog and improve judicial efficiency in one of the country’s busiest high courts.
