The Government of India has announced the appointment of three senior officers from the Indian Railways, Indian Economic Service, and Indian Railway Traffic Service to significant positions under the Central Staffing Scheme.
Mr. Amit Sharma, a 2011-batch officer of the Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS), has been appointed as Director in the Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare, Delhi. Recommended for central deputation by the Ministry of Railways, Mr. Sharma will serve in this role for a period of five years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Ms. Shalini Mahajan, a 2013-batch Indian Economic Service officer, has been appointed as Deputy Secretary in the National Recruitment Agency under the Department of Personnel & Training. Nominated by the Department of Economic Affairs, Ms. Mahajan will serve a four-year tenure. Her induction is expected to strengthen ongoing reforms and digital initiatives in the central recruitment framework.
Mr. Sumeet Singh, a 2008-batch Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer, has been selected to serve as Director in the Capacity Building Commission, also under the Department of Personnel & Training in Delhi. Recommended by the Ministry of Railways, Mr. Singh’s five-year appointment aligns with the Centre’s broader mission to enhance civil service capacities through structured training and development programmes.
The Department of Personnel & Training has instructed the respective ministries to ensure the officers are relieved promptly. As per Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) guidelines, any delay beyond three weeks from the issuance of the appointment orders could result in debarment from future consideration under the Central Staffing Scheme.
