In a remarkable achievement, 32 aspirants from the Residential Coaching Academy (RCA) at Jamia Millia Islamia have cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024. Notably, 12 out of the 32 selected candidates are women, marking a significant stride toward gender parity in civil services.

Alfred Thomas emerged as the top scorer from RCA this year, securing an impressive All India Rank (AIR) of 33. He was followed by Iram Choudhary with AIR 40 and Ruchika Jha who secured AIR 51. Their stellar performance has brought immense pride to the institution. Jamia Millia Islamia Vice Chancellor Prof. Mazhar Asif and Registrar Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi extended heartfelt congratulations to all the successful candidates.

These candidates are now set to join prestigious services such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Revenue Service (IRS), Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS), and Indian Audit and Accounts Service, depending on their ranks and service preferences.

The institution has maintained a strong track record in the UPSC exams. In 2023, 31 out of 60 RCA students who appeared for the interview made it to the final list of 1,016 recommended candidates—an impressive success rate of over 50 percent. That list also included Nausheen, who had secured a top rank of AIR 9.

Prof. Asif emphasized the importance of this year’s success, particularly highlighting the achievement of women candidates, whom he described as role models for future civil services aspirants. He commended their perseverance and dedication and acknowledged the broader inspiration their accomplishments would bring to the Jamia student community.

Prof. Samina Bano, the head of RCA, was instrumental in the academy’s success through her personalized mentoring and close engagement with the candidates. The university administration also acknowledged the efforts of those who narrowly missed selection and assured continued support to help them succeed in future examinations.
