New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on Wednesday approved the re-designation of six officers from the 2011 and 2012 batches of various services to the post of Director, effective January 1, 2026. The decision reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen senior-level leadership across key ministries and departments.
Officers Elevated to Director Posts
All six officers are currently serving as Deputy Secretaries in different ministries and departments. The officers and their new postings include –
- Prasad Arvind Chaphekar (IRS-IT:2012) – Ministry of New and Renewable Energy
- Vaibhav Rundwal (IES:2012) – Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs
- Puneet Meena (IRAS:2011) – Central Vigilance Commission (CVC)

- Manender (IDAS:2011) – Central Vigilance Commission (CVC)
- Sushant Sudan (IES:2012) – Department of Commerce (GeM)
Significance of the Appointments
The elevation of these officers ensures experienced leadership at critical administrative positions. Officers from IRS, IES, IDAS, and IRAS bring technical expertise and domain knowledge that is crucial for policy formulation, project implementation, and administrative oversight.
Background on ACC Re-designations
The ACC, chaired by the Prime Minister, approves postings, promotions, and re-designations of senior bureaucrats. Upgrading Deputy Secretaries to Director-level roles enables officers to assume greater responsibilities, enhance policy decision-making, and oversee major government programs in their respective ministries.
Looking Ahead
These appointments are part of a broader strategy to ensure experienced officers are positioned in strategic departments as India advances its national priorities, including renewable energy, urban development, transportation infrastructure, anti-corruption measures, and e-governance reforms.
