In a move involving relaxation of the IPS Tenure Policy, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension of tenure for two senior IPS officers serving in the Directorate of Enforcement (ED).

Ms. Sonia Narang, a 2002-batch Karnataka cadre IPS officer, who currently serves as Special Director in the Directorate of Enforcement, has been granted a one-year extension beyond 6 April 2025. Ms. Narang was promoted to the post of Special Director in December 2022, while she was serving as Additional Director.
Similarly, Mr. Abhishek Goyal, a 2005-batch Karnataka cadre IPS officer, has also been given a one-year extension beyond 18 March 2025. He is currently serving as Special Director of Enforcement (HIU). Notably, ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections, Mr. Goyal was also entrusted with the additional charge of the Northern Region.
These extensions have been granted as exceptions to the existing IPS Tenure Policy.
