New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the redesignation of three officers from the 2012 batch of IAS, IRS and IES to the rank of Director, with effect from January 1, 2026. All three officers are currently serving at the Deputy Secretary level in different ministries and departments of the Government of India.

The approvals were notified on Monday, December 29, 2025, through official appointment and recommendation orders.

ACC Approves Upgrade of Posts from Deputy Secretary to Director

According to the notifications, the ACC has approved the upgradation and redesignation of posts, resulting in the elevation of the following officers to the Director level for the remaining period of their central deputation tenure.

The move reflects routine cadre progression under central deputation norms and applies to officers from three different All India and Central Services.

Santanu Kumar Agrahari (IAS) Redesignated as Director

Santanu Kumar Agrahari (IAS: 2012: Jharkhand cadre), who is currently serving as Private Secretary to the Minister of State for Jal Shakti and Railways, V Somanna, has been redesignated to the Director level.

  • The post of Private Secretary (Deputy Secretary level) has been upgraded and redesignated as Private Secretary (Director level).
  • The redesignation will be effective from January 1, 2026, and will remain valid up to November 28, 2026.
  • His central deputation tenure began on November 29, 2021.

Ananjay Kumar Tiwari (IRS-IT) Elevated to Director Rank

Ananjay Kumar Tiwari (IRS–Income Tax: 2012 batch), currently posted as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, has also been granted Director rank.

  • The post of Deputy Secretary held by him has been redesignated as Director in the same department.
  • The redesignation will be effective till February 1, 2028.
  • His central deputation commenced on February 2, 2023.

Sweta Satya (IES) Redesignated as Director in Agriculture Ministry

The third officer approved for redesignation is Sweta Satya (IES: 2012 batch), who is presently serving as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

  • Her post has been redesignated from Deputy Secretary to Director within the same ministry.
  • The redesignation will remain effective up to November 10, 2029.
  • Her central deputation tenure began on November 11, 2024.

Effective Date and Administrative Significance

All three redesignations will come into force from January 1, 2026. Such redesignations are part of standard administrative processes under central staffing norms, allowing officers to discharge higher responsibilities without changing their posting.

The decision underscores the government’s continued emphasis on cadre-based progression and functional upgradation across ministries.
