The recent large-scale reshuffle in the Jharkhand Police Department on May 27 has triggered a wave of administrative complications, with several IPS officers facing difficulties due to the lack of designated office space and ambiguity over their new postings.
Among those affected is ADG Sanjay Latkar (1995-batch IPS Officer), who was shifted from ADG Operations to ADG Rail. However, he currently does not have a designated office in the Rail Department, where infrastructure exists only for DG, IG, and DIG-level officers — leaving no provision for an ADG post. Similarly, Mr. Y.S. Ramesh (2010-batch IPS Officer), transferred from DIG Palamu Range to DIG SCRB, is facing the same problem, as the SCRB is equipped with offices only for SP and IG-level officers, with no space for DIGs.
The reshuffle affected 45 IPS officers, including Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) from 14 districts. In addition, three officers were given extra charges. However, five officers who were replaced remain in limbo, awaiting fresh assignments from the state government.
Of further concern is the vacancy of three out of six DIG range posts in Hazaribagh, Bokaro, and Ranchi — regions known for their law and order sensitivity. Experts caution that prolonged vacancies and delays in resolving these logistical and administrative issues could significantly impede policing and governance in these crucial areas.
