In response to the tragic incident in Kallakurichi linked to illicit liquor consumption, the Tamil Nadu government has undertaken significant administrative changes within the state police department. On June 20th, senior IPS officer Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal (1994 batch) was transferred from his role as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Crime and Enforcement Bureau CID.
An official order issued by Principal Secretary of Home P. Amudha mandated that Mr. Aggarwal report to the office of DGP and Head of Police in Chennai.
Effective immediately, ADGP A. Arun, currently overseeing Law and Order, will assume full additional responsibilities as ADGP for both Enforcement and Crime divisions. Simultaneously, Superintendent of Police (SP) S.R. Senthil Kumar, previously stationed in Enforcement, Chennai, has been reassigned to report directly to the office of the DGP in Chennai.
Further adjustments include the appointment of G. Gopi, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kilpauk, who will now serve as SP of Enforcement in Chennai. These organizational changes aim to streamline operations and strengthen vigilance amidst ongoing efforts to address the repercussions of the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy.
