Uttar Pradesh to Develop Manufacturing and Logistics Hubs Along Agra–Lucknow Expressway

UPEIDA Plans Industrial Clusters to Transform Agra–Lucknow Expressway into Economic Corridor
Indian Masterminds Stories

Lucknow: The Agra–Lucknow Expressway is rapidly emerging as a new axis of industrial growth in Uttar Pradesh, with the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) accelerating plans to develop Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Clusters (IMLCs) along the corridor. The proposed clusters in Firozabad, Etawah, and Kannauj are expected to boost investment, generate employment, and strengthen the regional economy.

The initiative is part of the state government’s broader strategy to leverage expressway-led development and transform major transport corridors into economic growth engines. With improved connectivity already in place, the Agra–Lucknow Expressway is now poised to evolve beyond a transportation route into a full-fledged industrial and logistics corridor.

UPEIDA’s Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Vision

According to officials, UPEIDA’s IMLC project aims to create a unified platform for manufacturing, logistics, and warehousing by offering infrastructure-ready industrial zones. These clusters will provide seamless road connectivity, reliable power and water supply, digital infrastructure, and modern logistics facilities, making them highly attractive for industrial investment.

The clusters are being designed to align with ease-of-doing-business principles, ensuring efficient land allocation, single-window clearances, and investor-friendly policies.

Firozabad: Modern Boost for the Glass Industry

Firozabad, globally known for its glass and bangle industry, is expected to receive a significant boost through the proposed IMLC. The cluster will support glass manufacturing units, packaging and export-oriented industries, as well as warehousing and supply chain facilities. With access to modern technology and improved logistics, traditional industries in the region are likely to enhance productivity, competitiveness, and export potential.

Kannauj: Fragrance and Agro-Based Industries to Expand

Kannauj, often referred to as India’s “Perfume Capital,” will see focused development of agro-processing, perfume and fragrance manufacturing, food processing, and packaging industries under the IMLC framework. Cold storage and warehousing infrastructure will also be developed to support agricultural value addition. The initiative is expected to provide farmers with better market access while strengthening Kannauj’s traditional fragrance industry.

Etawah: Strategic Location to Drive Logistics Growth

Etawah’s central location along the Agra–Lucknow Expressway gives it a strategic advantage as a logistics and transport hub. The proposed IMLC in Etawah is being planned to support multi-modal logistics, warehousing, and light manufacturing units. Improved connectivity will enable faster and cost-effective movement of goods across Uttar Pradesh and to neighbouring states.

Investor-Friendly Ecosystem and Job Creation

Government officials said the clusters will offer attractive investment opportunities through strong infrastructure support, tax incentives, and simplified regulatory processes. Experts believe the project will draw both domestic and foreign investors, significantly strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s industrial ecosystem.

The IMLC initiative is also expected to create thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities. Local youth are likely to benefit from jobs within their districts, helping reduce migration while opening avenues for skill development and technical training.

Strengthening Logistics and State Economy

Modern warehousing, cold chain facilities, truck terminals, and digital logistics systems will form a key part of the clusters, enhancing supply chain efficiency and reducing operational costs for industries. Combined with the expressway’s high-speed connectivity, these facilities are expected to improve the overall competitiveness of businesses in the region.
