Senior IAS officer Ajay Bhalla’s services has been extended till 22nd August, 2021. Mr. Bhalla who is currently the union home secretary was due for his retirement on 30th November. His extension was approved by the ‘Appointments Committee of the Cabinet’. This committee is chaired by the Prime Minister. Let it be noted that the tenure of Union Home secretary is usually of two years and can be extended.
The 1984-batch of Assam-Meghalaya cadre has been appointed as home secretary last year.. He replaced Rajiv Gauba and took charge on August 22. Mr. Gauba is currently the Cabinet Secretary.
Mr. Bhalla who is an alumnus of Delhi secretary is also a trained martial artist. Along with the Secretary (Home), he also has additional charge of Secretary , Department of Personnel and Training. Prior to this, Mr. Bhalla was appointed as the special duty officer in Home Ministry.
The officer who also took on the responsibility as the Union Power Secretary has an important role to play in this corona pandemic. He is working as Executive Chairman of National Executive Committee and helping in communication of directives approved by the union govt. regarding the Covid-19.
