Chennai: The senior officials from the Army Design Bureau (ADB) visited Garuda Aerospace’s drone manufacturing and research facility in Chennai. 

The visit highlighted India’s growing focus on indigenous defence technology, drone manufacturing, and military self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

The review provided Army officials with a detailed look at Garuda Aerospace’s manufacturing infrastructure, research capabilities, defence drone portfolio, and plans to strengthen India’s unmanned warfare ecosystem.

Major General Gopal Kapoor, Additional Director General of the Army Design Bureau, led the high-level visit to Garuda Aerospace’s Chennai facility.

During the visit, ADB officials toured Garuda Aerospace’s 50,000-square-foot facility. The company demonstrated the complete lifecycle of drone development, including:

Army Design Bureau Garuda Aerospace Visit: Expansion Of Drone Pilot Training Network

One of the major discussions during the visit involved Garuda Aerospace’s drone pilot training ecosystem. The company operates Remote Pilot Training Organisations (RPTOs) across India to train certified drone operators.

Industry experts believe trained drone operators will become increasingly important as military and civilian drone usage continues to expand.

Garuda Aerospace Proposes Training 80,000 Agniveers

A significant announcement during the interaction was Garuda Aerospace’s proposal to train 80,000 Agniveers. The proposal was submitted to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).

  • Train Agniveers in drone operations

  • Strengthen India’s unmanned capabilities

Major General Gopal Kapoor reportedly appreciated Garuda Aerospace’s investments in research, innovation, and manufacturing infrastructure. He reiterated that indigenisation remains a central pillar of India’s military preparedness strategy. The visit also aligned with the government’s “Design In India, Develop In India, Manufacture In India” vision for the defence sector.

Garuda Aerospace Founder and CEO Agnishwar Jayaprakash emphasized the importance of cooperation between the armed forces, industry, academia, and government institutions. According to the company, such collaboration is essential for building a strong and self-reliant defence ecosystem.

The company stated that it remains committed to supporting India’s ambition of becoming a global hub for indigenous drone manufacturing and advanced unmanned technologies.
