Assam Bureaucratic Reshuffle: 4 IAS Officers Transferred; Dr. John Berchmans Appointed Addl Chief Secretary, Industries & Commerce

Guwahati: The Assam government, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has carried out a significant bureaucratic reshuffle, transferring four senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers. This is the second round of administrative changes in a week.

The Department of Personnel issued the transfer and posting orders after receiving approval from the Governor.

Dr. John Berchmans Appointed Additional Chief Secretary, Industries and Commerce

Dr. John Berchmans, a 1995-batch IAS officer, has been relieved from his position as Additional Chief Secretary, Labour Welfare Department. He has now been appointed as Additional Chief Secretary for the Industries, Commerce and Public Enterprises, and Tea Tribe Welfare Departments.

Mukesh Chandra Sahu Gets Additional Charge of Transport Department

Mukesh Chandra Sahu, who was serving as Additional Chief Secretary, Women and Child Development and Bodoland Welfare Departments, has been given additional charge as Additional Chief Secretary, Transport Department, Government of Assam.

Konwar Narayan Kumar Assigned Additional Responsibilities

Following the appointment of Dr. Om Prakash, a 2006-batch IAS officer and MD of Samagra Shiksha Ekaam Mission, as the General Examiner for the 2025 Bihar Legislative Assembly General Elections and by-elections, the Assam government has reassigned key responsibilities.

Konwar Narayan Kumar, currently Secretary of the Higher Education and School Education Departments, has been given additional charge as Registrar, Cooperative Societies; Managing Director, RUSA; Director, Official Language Welfare; and MD, Samagra Shiksha Mission.

Gyanendra Dev Tripathi Appointed Principal Secretary, Border Security & Development

Gyanendra Dev Tripathi, a 1998-batch IAS officer, has been relieved from his post as Principal Secretary, Transport Department. He has now been appointed as Principal Secretary of the Border Security and Development, Implementation of the Assam Accord, and Skill, Employment & Entrepreneurship Departments. Additionally, he will hold the charge of Principal Secretary, Labour Welfare Department.

Assam Govt Strengthens Key Administrative Positions

The reshuffle reflects the government’s focus on strengthening crucial departments like industries, transport, education, and border security. These changes are aimed at improving administrative efficiency and accelerating ongoing developmental initiatives across Assam.
