From Lab to Market: AIC ANUSHAKTI Pushes BARC Innovations Through Industry Partnerships

AIC ANUSHAKTI has signed 22 technology transfer and two incubation agreements with industry for commercialising BARC-developed technologies, alongside three product launches.

Mumbai: AIC ANUSHAKTI, the technology translation arm of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), has signed 22 technology transfer agreements and two incubation agreements with industry for the commercialisation and further development of BARC technologies.

The agreements were signed during a Technology Transfer and Incubation Agreement Signing, Product Launch and Certificate Distribution Ceremony organised by AIC ANUSHAKTI in association with the Technology Transfer and Collaboration Division (TT&CD), Knowledge Management Group, BARC, on September 9, 2026.

The event also featured the launch of three products based on BARC technologies.

Technologies Span Healthcare, Energy and Waste Management

The technologies transferred to industry cover multiple applications, including nuclear safety, healthcare, environmental management and manufacturing.

Key technologies included:

  • Hydrogen mitigation system for reactors
  • Tele-ECG technology
  • Textile effluent decolouring system
  • Boron carbide production technology
  • Bio-waste converters

The agreements are aimed at enabling industry partners to take BARC-developed technologies towards prototype development, further refinement and eventual commercialisation.

Industry Partners Share Commercialisation Experience

During the event, industry licensees shared their experience of developing initial prototypes and receiving technical handholding and support from BARC.

The participating companies also discussed plans to enhance technologies being developed under incubation according to market requirements and move them towards commercialisation.

A separate interaction with BARC technology experts was organised to help industry participants understand the technical aspects of the transferred technologies.

Dr A.K. Dureja, Director, Knowledge Management Group, BARC, gave an overview of the activities of AIC ANUSHAKTI and TT&CD, KMG, BARC.

Dr S. Gautam, Head of the Food Technology Division, BARC, also presented an overview of food technologies and food irradiation.

AIC ANUSHAKTI’s Role in Taking BARC Technologies to Industry

AIC ANUSHAKTI serves as BARC’s technology translation arm, facilitating the licensing of BARC-developed technologies for commercialisation.

Its activities include:

  • Licensing BARC technologies to industry.
  • In-house incubation and value addition of technologies.
  • Collaborative incubation of innovative industry ideas with BARC mentorship.
  • Supporting technology translation from research and development towards commercial applications.

AIC ANUSHAKTI was established under the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog, to support the startup ecosystem through the commercialisation of spin-off technologies developed by BARC, a multidisciplinary research and development centre under the Department of Atomic Energy.

BARC also operates AKRUTI, a dedicated rural entrepreneurship development programme.
