Patna: The much-anticipated beautification and development work at Prakash Punj, a 10-acre park located near ‘Guru Ka Bagh’ in Patna Sahib, has been successfully completed. This development is expected to transform the area into a major center of attraction for Sikh devotees and tourists from across the country and abroad.
Extensive Landscaping and Infrastructure Development
The Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation spearheaded the large-scale gardening and landscaping efforts, aimed at enhancing the natural beauty and serene environment of the park. A significant highlight of the project was the renovation of the existing pond within the park premises.
To enrich the visitor experience, a Moram Parikrama Path (circumambulation path) was constructed along the banks of the pond, facilitating peaceful walks and spiritual reflection. The project also included the construction of a jetty to enable boating activities, which are planned to commence soon.
To ensure convenience and comfort, a modern toilet facility has been added, and decorative solar-powered lighting has been installed throughout the area, giving the park a vibrant look even after sunset. Work on a watchtower is currently underway, promising panoramic views of the entire park upon completion.
Honoring Sikh History and Culture
‘Prakash Punj’ is not just a park but a grand tribute to Sikh history and culture. It honors the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji – Ajit Singh, Jujhar Singh, Zorawar Singh, and Fateh Singh – with four specially constructed entry gates named after them.
In addition, five circular structures within the park pay homage to five prominent Sikh pilgrimage sites: Hemkund Sahib, Paonta Sahib, Nanded Sahib, Keshgarh Sahib, and Patna Sahib. These structures feature intricately engraved miniature models of the respective gurudwaras, educating visitors about Sikh heritage.
Museum Celebrating the Legacy of Guru Gobind Singh Ji
A notable attraction within Prakash Punj is the newly established museum dedicated to the life and teachings of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Utilizing a mix of photographs, artifacts, and digital media, the museum offers a comprehensive view of the Guru’s sacrifices, valor, and spiritual ideals. The exhibits aim to inspire visitors by highlighting his profound influence on Sikhism and Indian history.
Future Plans and Investment
The development of Prakash Punj is part of Phase-2 of the Bihar State Government’s vision to promote tourism and preserve cultural heritage. So far, approximately ₹9.49 crore has been invested in enhancing the infrastructure and facilities around the park.
The government plans to continue developing additional tourist amenities to provide a world-class experience for visitors. The completion of this phase marks a significant milestone in establishing Patna Sahib as a key destination on the Sikh spiritual and cultural map.
