Amaravati: Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Central government-owned Navratna public sector enterprise, is investing ₹2,500 crore to establish a defence ecosystem on a 914-acre site in Andhra Pradesh’s Sri Sathya Sai district. The proposed facility is expected to strengthen high-tech defence manufacturing in the Rayalaseema region, generate employment and support the development of a local supplier network.
Andhra Pradesh Information Technology and Human Resources Development (IT and HRD) Minister Nara Lokesh said the facility would bring high-tech defence manufacturing to Rayalaseema and create approximately 800 quality jobs for young people.
According to a report on October 25, 2026, Lokesh said the state government had fulfilled its commitment through the investment. In a social media post, he highlighted the project’s potential to generate employment and encourage the growth of a supplier base around the facility.
BEL’s ₹2,500 Crore Investment to Boost Defence Manufacturing in Rayalaseema
The proposed investment is expected to strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s position in the defence manufacturing sector by bringing advanced industrial activities to Sri Sathya Sai district.
The facility, planned across 914 acres, is expected to contribute to the expansion of the region’s high-tech manufacturing ecosystem. The development could also encourage ancillary industries and industrial suppliers to establish or expand operations to serve defence-related manufacturing requirements.
The project represents a potential boost for Rayalaseema’s industrial development, with opportunities arising from the establishment of a large-scale defence manufacturing facility.

Project Expected to Generate 800 Jobs for Young People
One of the key expected outcomes of the project is employment generation. According to Minister Nara Lokesh, the facility is expected to create around 800 quality jobs for young people in the region.
The development could provide employment opportunities in technical and manufacturing-related activities, although the specific job categories, recruitment schedule and skill requirements have not yet been disclosed in the available information.
The project is also expected to contribute to the regional economy by supporting industrial activity and creating demand for skilled workers and associated services.
Defence Electronics Suppliers May Benefit from New Facility
Beyond direct employment, the proposed facility could create opportunities for companies involved in defence electronics manufacturing and industrial supply chains.
As high-tech defence manufacturing expands, local suppliers may find potential business opportunities in areas such as electronic components, subsystems and other industrial inputs required for defence programmes.
The development of a local supplier ecosystem could help strengthen industrial linkages, encourage participation by smaller manufacturers and support the growth of ancillary businesses in Andhra Pradesh.
However, BEL has not disclosed the specific electronics products to be manufactured at the facility, its component procurement requirements or details of potential supplier contracts in the available report. Any business opportunities for individual manufacturers will depend on the project’s eventual production plans and procurement processes.
Andhra Pradesh Government Highlights Commitment to Industrial Development
Minister Nara Lokesh said the investment reflected the state government’s commitment to bringing high-tech defence manufacturing to Rayalaseema.
In his social media post, he highlighted the expected employment benefits and the potential development of a supplier base around the proposed facility. The project is expected to support the state’s broader industrial development efforts by attracting investment and expanding manufacturing activity beyond established industrial centres.
The ₹2,500 crore investment could therefore contribute to the development of a wider industrial ecosystem in Sri Sathya Sai district, subject to the project’s implementation and the establishment of supporting supplier networks.
