The launch signifies a major leap in India’s ambition to build globally competitive, high-speed, and passenger-centric rail infrastructure.

Also present on the occasion were Shri Satish Kumar, Chairman and CEO of the Indian Railway Board, senior officials from Indian Railways, and other distinguished dignitaries. The event was witnessed by the senior leadership of BEML Ltd., including its Chairman and Managing Director, Shri Shantanu Roy.

The launch marks a defining moment in the evolution of Indian Railways, transitioning the Vande Bharat platform from short-distance daytime travel to high-speed, long-distance overnight operations.

BEML Entrusted with Design and Development of Sleeper Trainsets

BEML Ltd., a leading public sector engineering company, has been entrusted with the design and development of 10 Vande Bharat Sleeper trainsets, reflecting the strong confidence reposed in its advanced rail engineering capabilities.

The company expressed gratitude to the Government of India, the Prime Minister, and the Ministry of Railways for their trust and support. BEML also acknowledged the vital role played by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), along with its supply-chain partners and industry collaborators, in the successful realization of this landmark project.

Indigenously Designed, Built for Global Standards

A powerful symbol of India’s growing technological self-reliance, the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express has been indigenously designed, developed, and manufactured at BEML’s state-of-the-art Rail Complex in Bengaluru.

Engineered to operate at speeds of up to 180 kmph, the sleeper trainset is optimized for long-distance travel, combining speed, safety, comfort, and energy efficiency. The project demonstrates India’s ability to conceive and deliver complex, high-performance mobility solutions that meet global benchmarks.

More Than a Train: A Testament to Indian Engineering

More than the introduction of a new train service, the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express represents the depth and maturity of India’s indigenous engineering and advanced manufacturing ecosystem.

The trainset is the culmination of sustained effort, innovation, and perseverance by BEML’s engineers, designers, and shop-floor teams, whose craftsmanship, precision, and collaborative spirit transformed a national vision into a world-class engineering reality.

Preparing for the Future of Indian Railways

As India enters this new phase of rail innovation, BEML is already gearing up for larger and more complex rail programmes. The company continues to strengthen its engineering depth, research and development capabilities, and advanced technology platforms to deliver next-generation mobility solutions.

Guided by strong collaboration with stakeholders and the unwavering dedication of its workforce, BEML reaffirmed its commitment to nation-building, contributing to India’s journey towards becoming a developed, globally competitive nation.

A New Era for Long-Distance Rail Travel

The launch of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express is expected to redefine overnight rail travel in India, offering passengers a modern, comfortable, and high-speed alternative while reinforcing India’s position as a rising global leader in rail technology and infrastructure development.
