BEML Commissions Robotic Welding Cell and Modern HMV Axle Assembly Shop at KGF to Boost Production and Efficiency

New Facilities to Boost Productivity, Quality, and Safety in Earthmoving Equipment Manufacturing While Supporting Green and Modern Manufacturing Initiatives

New Delhi/KGF: BEML Limited has taken a major step in modernising its manufacturing operations by commissioning a state-of-the-art robotic welding cell and a modern Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) Axle Assembly Shop at its Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) manufacturing complex. The inauguration was led by BEML Chairman and Managing Director Shantanu Roy, in the presence of Director (Mining & Construction) Sanjay Som, Head of KGF Complex Yogananda G, and other senior company officials.

Robotic Welding Cell Enhances Productivity and Quality

The newly established robotic welding cell forms a key part of BEML’s ongoing modernisation programme. It is designed for manufacturing critical components for earthmoving dozers and incorporates advanced technologies, including pulse welding systems and laser-based sensing solutions.

The facility is expected to:

  • Improve overall manufacturing efficiency
  • Ensure consistent weld quality
  • Significantly reduce rework
  • Enhance productivity across production lines

This high-tech setup aligns with BEML’s strategy to leverage automation and digitalisation in heavy equipment manufacturing.

Modern HMV Axle Assembly Shop Boosts Capacity and Safety

In addition, the HMV Axle Assembly Shop has been commissioned with an installed capacity of nine axles per day. The shop is equipped with advanced infrastructure for axle assembly, sub-assembly, and end-of-line testing.

Key features include:

  • Ergonomically engineered workstations for improved employee safety and comfort
  • Operational efficiency enhancements through streamlined assembly processes
  • Design in accordance with green manufacturing principles

This facility aims to strengthen BEML’s production capabilities while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and sustainability.

GEMBA Workplace for Real-Time Monitoring

BEML has also operationalised a dedicated GEMBA area at the KGF complex. This facility enables:

  • Real-time visual monitoring of performance metrics
  • Tracking of operational challenges and improvement initiatives
  • Enhanced cross-functional coordination and employee engagement

The GEMBA workplace supports quicker decision-making and ensures continuous process improvement across the manufacturing complex.
