Bengaluru: BEML Limited has entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co. Ltd (KSOE) and HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI) to jointly design, manufacture, and deploy advanced maritime and port cranes in India. The partnership, conducted under the guidance of the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, aims to deliver both conventional and autonomous crane systems, complemented by comprehensive after-sales support, spares, and training.
Boosting India’s Maritime Ambitions
The collaboration aligns with India’s Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, which seeks to expand the nation’s port capacity to 10,000 MMTPA and establish India among the world’s top five maritime powers. By combining BEML’s indigenous manufacturing capabilities with the global engineering expertise of KSOE and HSHI, the partnership aims to modernize India’s port infrastructure, reduce import dependence, and promote self-reliance in strategic maritime technologies.

Strategic Focus on Indigenous Manufacturing
The initiative is expected to –
- Develop high-capacity, energy-efficient, and smart port cranes tailored to India’s evolving needs.
- Support the modernization of shipyards, cargo-handling facilities, and port operations.
- Strengthen the private sector and generate direct and indirect employment opportunities.
- Catalyze next-generation infrastructure and enhance India’s maritime industrial ecosystem.
Industry Leaders at the MoU Signing
The MoU was signed at BEML’s Bengaluru headquarters in the presence of Mr Shantanu Roy, CMD, BEML, along with senior officials from KSOE and HSHI, including Mr Han Nae Choi (Senior VP, KSOE), Mr Young Hoon Kwon (Director, KSOE), and Mr Jong Ho Park (Head – Crane & Industrial Plant, HSHI). The agreement was executed by Cmde RGK Rao, Head – Maritime SBU, BEML, along with representatives from the Korean partners.
