New Delhi: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), the state-owned engineering giant, has announced that it has secured a major power plant project worth ₹1,200-1,500 crore from Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL). The project, a captivate power plant, is part of SAIL’s ambitious 4.08 MTPA crude steel expansion at its IISCO Steel Plant in Burnpur, West Bengal.
Key Details of the Project
The Letter of Acceptance (LoA) received by BHEL pertains to the establishment of a captivated power plant at the IISCO Steel Plant, a critical part of SAIL’s larger capacity expansion project. This will help meet the increasing power demands of the expanded steel plant, ensuring uninterrupted operations.
Key details of the project include:
- Order Value: Between ₹1,200 crore to ₹1,500 crore, excluding GST.
- Project Duration: The plant is expected to be commissioned in 39 months from the award of the contract.
- Strategic Importance: This project will significantly bolster BHEL’s position in the specialized power equipment sector, particularly in captivated power plants for the steel industry.
