Patna: The Bihar Cabinet has approved projects worth ₹3,516 crore for Gaya, giving a major push to religious tourism, visitor infrastructure and regional development in one of the state’s most important pilgrimage destinations.
The approvals include the ₹2,520-crore Vishnupad Temple complex development and the ₹996.05-crore Son-Falgu River Linking Project. Together, the projects aim to improve facilities for visitors, strengthen infrastructure around Gaya and support the city’s long-term tourism potential.
The Cabinet has approved nearly 17 projects as part of the broader development package. The decisions also include measures to improve regional air connectivity and strengthen the civil aviation framework in Bihar.
Vishnupad Temple Complex to Get Major Upgrade
The biggest component of the package is the ₹2,520-crore development of the Vishnupad Temple complex.
The project is planned on the lines of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor in Varanasi, with the objective of modernising facilities around the temple and improving the experience of pilgrims visiting Gaya.
Gaya receives a large number of devotees every year, particularly for Pind Daan rituals. The proposed development is expected to address the growing requirements of pilgrims by improving facilities and infrastructure around the temple complex.
The project also places Gaya’s religious heritage at the centre of the state’s tourism development plans. Better infrastructure can help the city manage visitor flows while creating a more organised environment for pilgrims.

₹996 Crore Son-Falgu River Linking Project
The second major project approved for Gaya is the Son-Falgu River Linking Project, estimated to cost ₹996.05 crore.
Under the project, an intake well is proposed approximately 23 km upstream from Indrapuri Barrage.
The river-linking initiative forms an important part of the wider infrastructure package approved for the region. Along with the Vishnupad development, it represents an investment in projects that extend beyond tourism facilities and address broader regional infrastructure needs.
Boost for Gaya’s Tourism Economy

The Cabinet also approved the Bihar State Civil Aviation Cadre Recruitment Rules 2026.
The decision is part of the state’s efforts to strengthen its institutional framework for civil aviation as regional connectivity expands.
With the Gaya tourism projects and measures related to air connectivity approved together, the decisions cover both physical infrastructure and administrative capacity linked to Bihar’s growing tourism and transport requirements.
