Bihar Extends Deadline for Online Applications to Set Up Jaggery Production Units, Offering Grants Up to ₹1 Crore

Government to Provide Financial Assistance Based on Crushing Capacity to Promote Jaggery Production and Boost Rural Economy in Bihar
Indian Masterminds Stories

Patna: In a move to boost the jaggery production industry in Bihar, the state government has extended the deadline for online applications for setting up jaggery production units. The applications, initially scheduled to be submitted by 25 December 2025, can now be submitted until 25 January 2026. This initiative is part of the Bihar State Jaggery Industry Promotion Program, which aims to support both sugarcane farmers and investors to establish modern, efficient jaggery production units in the state.

Government Grants for Jaggery Production Units

The state government is offering grants ranging from ₹6 lakh to ₹1 crore for setting up jaggery production units, depending on the sugarcane crushing capacity of the units. The grants will cover up to 50% of the capital cost for setting up these units. This initiative is expected to significantly contribute to the growth of the sugarcane industry and provide a boost to the rural economy in Bihar.

Subsidy Details Based on Crushing Capacity

The subsidy distribution will vary based on the daily crushing capacity of the jaggery production units. The following details outline the grant structure:

  • 5 to 20 tons per day: Units with this capacity will receive a maximum grant of ₹6 lakh.
  • 21 to 40 tons per day: Units falling in this category will be eligible for a grant of up to ₹15 lakh.
  • 41 to 60 tons per day: These units will be eligible for a maximum grant of ₹45 lakh.
  • Over 60 tons per day: Units with a crushing capacity exceeding 60 tons per day can avail a grant of up to ₹1 crore.

This financial assistance is aimed at encouraging both local farmers and entrepreneurs to invest in and expand the jaggery production industry, ensuring better production practices and increasing the market potential for Bihar’s jaggery.

How to Apply for the Subsidy

Interested farmers and investors can apply online for the subsidy by visiting the official website of the Sugarcane Industry Department of Bihar at ccs.bihar.gov.in. The department has set a final application submission deadline of 25 January 2026, urging potential applicants to submit their forms well in advance.

Promoting the Growth of Sugarcane and Jaggery Industries in Bihar

The Bihar government has been actively promoting sugarcane farming and related industries in the state. Several schemes and subsidies have been introduced to support farmers, improve the quality of sugarcane crops, and enhance the overall sugar industry infrastructure. By extending these benefits to jaggery production units, the government is aiming to increase local processing capacity, reduce wastage, and create more job opportunities in rural areas.

A Step Toward Sustainable Agricultural Practices

The promotion of jaggery production units is also aligned with sustainable agricultural practices. Unlike large-scale sugar factories, jaggery production is less resource-intensive, and it provides an eco-friendly option for farmers looking to diversify their income. Moreover, it helps reduce dependency on external markets and gives farmers better control over the price and quality of their produce.

A Significant Boost to Bihar’s Rural Economy

The Bihar government’s initiative to support jaggery production is a significant step toward enhancing the state’s agricultural output, creating jobs, and improving the livelihoods of sugarcane farmers. With the deadline for online applications extended to 25 January 2026, interested parties have more time to apply for the financial support that will help them set up modern, efficient jaggery production units.

The Bihar State Jaggery Industry Promotion Program is not only a means of strengthening the state’s agricultural economy but also a way to create a sustainable, self-reliant rural economy where farmers and entrepreneurs can thrive.
