Patna: Bihar’s road infrastructure received a fresh push as Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari reviewed several major highway, expressway and connectivity projects in Patna.
The meeting covered projects ranging from the Patna-Purnia Greenfield Expressway and Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway to the Patna Ring Road and Danapur-Bihta corridor. The review focused on project progress, resolving implementation issues and improving road connectivity across the state.
Major Expressways and Highways Reviewed
The meeting included a review of several important road projects that are expected to improve connectivity between different parts of Bihar and strengthen links with neighbouring regions.
Key projects discussed included:
- Patna-Purnia Greenfield Expressway
- Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway
- Muzaffarpur-Barauni four-laning
- Darbhanga-Supaul Highway
- Khagaria-Purnia road
- Muzaffarpur-Sonbarsa corridor
- Amas-Darbhanga project
- Munger-Mirzachauki corridor
- Bakarpur-Manikpur-Sahebganj corridor
- Siwan-Mashrakh road
- Dumriya Ghat bridge
The projects are aimed at improving travel between Bihar’s major cities and districts while supporting movement of goods, industrial activity, tourism and access to markets.
However, the meeting did not announce new completion deadlines for all the projects under review.

Patna Ring Road and Elevated Road Projects
Several projects around Patna also figured prominently in the discussions.
The Patna Ring Road, Danapur-Bihta corridor and Bihta-Koelwar road upgrade were reviewed as part of efforts to improve connectivity around the state capital.
The meeting also discussed a six-lane elevated road with service roads on the Anisabad-Didarganj section of NH-22 and NH-31.
Other major projects on the agenda included the Patna-Ara-Sasaram four-lane corridor and the six-lane Ganga bridge.
The six-lane greenfield Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata Highway was also reviewed, highlighting the importance of Bihar’s road network in improving connectivity beyond the state.
DPRs Ordered for New Four-Laning Projects
The meeting also gave fresh directions for taking some road projects to the planning stage.
A Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been ordered for the Aurangabad-Amba bypass and the four-laning of NH-139. The DPR will assess the technical requirements, alignment, construction plan and other details needed before implementation.
A DPR was also directed for the four-laning of the Bariarpur-Gangta-Jamui section of NH-333.
These directions can help move the projects towards the next stage of planning, although construction start dates have not yet been announced.
Focus on Timely Completion and Quality
During the review, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary stressed the need to complete ongoing projects within their निर्धारित timelines and resolve implementation-related issues quickly.
The focus on road connectivity comes from its wider impact on Bihar’s economy. Better highways can reduce travel time, improve access to markets and support the movement of agricultural and industrial goods.
Improved connectivity can also make it easier for people to access employment, education, healthcare and other services, particularly in districts located away from major urban centres.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also stressed that quality standards must not be compromised during road construction.
He said contractors involved in substandard construction would face strict action. The government is also using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to monitor infrastructure projects, with technology being used as part of efforts to improve project supervision.
What the Road Push Means for Bihar
The range of projects reviewed reflects the state’s broader effort to strengthen its road network through expressways, four-lane highways, bridges, elevated roads and bypasses.
Projects such as the Patna-Purnia Expressway and Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway could strengthen long-distance connectivity, while the Patna Ring Road and Danapur-Bihta corridor are focused more directly on easing movement around the capital region.
At the same time, new DPR directions for NH-139 and NH-333 could help prepare additional corridors for future development.
For Bihar, stronger road connectivity can have an impact beyond travel. Faster movement of goods can support businesses and agriculture, while better links between districts can improve access to jobs, markets and public services.
The latest review therefore places road infrastructure at the centre of Bihar’s wider development push, with implementation, construction quality and timely resolution of project bottlenecks remaining key factors in determining how quickly these plans translate into improved connectivity.
