Patna: Bihar is set to strengthen its skill-development infrastructure with a permanent campus of the National Skill Training Institute for Women (NSTI-W) at Bihta and a Skill India International Centre (SIIC) in Patna. The two initiatives are aimed at expanding advanced vocational training for women and creating pathways for Bihar’s youth to access employment opportunities in international markets.

The initiatives were announced by Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary. The foundation stone for the permanent NSTI-W campus was laid at Bihta, while the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and the Bihar government exchanged an MoU for establishing the SIIC.

₹99.97 Crore Permanent Campus at Bihta

The permanent NSTI-W campus will be developed at Bihta with an investment of ₹99.97 crore. The facility will include an administrative block, academic block and girls’ hostel, allowing the institute to expand its training infrastructure and introduce additional industry-aligned courses.

The proposed campus is expected to offer 13 trades under the Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS) and Craft Instructor Training Scheme (CITS), with an annual training capacity of 435 trainees.

Proposed emerging trades include:

  • Artificial Intelligence and Programming Assistant
  • Drone Technician
  • Solar Technician
  • Radiology Technician

The institute also plans to offer conventional and women-centric trades.

NSTI-W Currently Operates From Temporary Campus

NSTI-W Patna is currently functioning from a temporary campus and is the only Central Government skill training institute exclusively for women in Bihar. It provides long-term training under the CTS and CITS programmes.

The institute has previously offered training in areas including Electronics Mechanic, Fashion Design and Technology, Artificial Intelligence and Cosmetology.

SIIC to Prepare Youth for Overseas Employment

The proposed Skill India International Centre in Patna will receive approximately ₹7 crore in capital investment from the Government of India.

The centre will focus on preparing Bihar’s youth for international employment through:

  • Foreign-language training in English, German, Japanese and French
  • International employment and placement counselling
  • Certification guidance
  • Pre-departure orientation
  • Safe-migration support
  • Training aligned with international occupational standards

Training will cover sectors such as electrical services, plumbing, construction and agriculture, among other emerging trades.

Industry-Aligned Training for Women and Youth

The two initiatives are designed to address different aspects of Bihar’s skilling ecosystem. While the permanent NSTI-W campus will expand technical and vocational training opportunities for women, the SIIC will provide Bihar’s youth with training and support aimed at accessing overseas employment.

The projects are part of the Centre and Bihar government’s efforts to strengthen vocational training infrastructure and connect workers with industry requirements and international employment opportunities.
