Patna: The Bihar government has provided interest-free education loans to more than 4 lakh students under the Bihar Student Credit Card (BSCC) Scheme, helping them pursue higher education without financial constraints. Launched in 2016 under the state’s flagship Saat Nishchay (Seven Resolves) Initiative, the scheme aims to ensure that students from all backgrounds can complete their higher studies smoothly.
Interest-Free Loans Up to ₹4 Lakh
Under the Bihar Student Credit Card Scheme, students pursuing higher education are eligible to receive interest-free loans of up to ₹4 lakh. According to records from the Department of Education, over the past nine years, the government has disbursed a total of ₹8,149.56 crore in loans to 4,04,167 students across the state.
The scheme not only covers tuition fees but also provides financial support for living expenses. Students residing outside hostels receive up to ₹5,000 per month for day-to-day expenses, with the amount determined according to the city category.

Support for Technical Education Students
Students enrolled in technical courses receive additional support under the scheme. For the purchase of books and stationery, ₹10,000 is provided, while for buying laptops, students are eligible for ₹35,000. These provisions aim to ensure that students have the necessary tools and resources to succeed in their studies.
Government’s Commitment to Education
Education Minister Sunil Kumar highlighted the impact of the scheme, stating, “Under the Bihar Student Credit Card Scheme, over 4 lakh students have received a total of ₹8,149.56 crore in education loans so far, allowing them to complete their higher studies. Each student is eligible for a loan of up to ₹4 lakh, which is completely interest-free.”
The Bihar Student Credit Card Scheme continues to play a pivotal role in promoting higher education in the state, reducing financial barriers for students, and empowering them to achieve academic excellence.
