Bhopal: The Union Cabinet has given its approval for the construction of the fourth rail line between Itarsi and Nagpur, a development hailed as a major boost for Madhya Pradesh by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav.
Expressing his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Dr. Yadav emphasized the significant benefits this project will bring to the region. The new rail line will particularly enhance connectivity and logistics for key Madhya Pradesh districts like Narmadapuram, Betul, and Pandhurna, as well as Nagpur in Maharashtra.
Easier Jyotirlinga Yatra Connectivity
Dr. Yadav also highlighted the project’s importance in facilitating the Jyotirlinga pilgrimage route. Pilgrims traveling from Mahakaleshwar and Omkareshwar in Madhya Pradesh to prominent Jyotirlinga temples at Srisailam (Andhra Pradesh) and Rameshwaram (Tamil Nadu) will experience smoother and more comfortable journeys.
Economic and Environmental Impact
The project is expected to generate substantial economic and environmental benefits, including:
- Annual diesel savings of approximately 5.3 crore liters
- Creation of an additional 10 million tons of freight capacity
- Reduction in logistics costs by about Rs 1,206 crore
The fourth rail line will not only reduce transit time but also improve freight efficiency, strengthening the transportation infrastructure crucial for industrial and commercial growth in the region.
