New Delhi: State-run oil marketing company Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has announced a key change in its Board of Directors with the appointment of Vedveer Arya as an Additional Director. This comes alongside the completion of tenure of Independent Director Dr. Sushma Agarwal.
According to a regulatory filing, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has nominated Arya, who currently serves as Additional Secretary & Financial Advisor (AS&FA) in the Ministry, to BPCL’s Board for a three-year term on a co-terminus basis or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Arya’s appointment is effective from March 9, 2026, while Dr. Agarwal’s tenure concluded on March 10, 2026.
Vedveer Arya’s Appointment and Role
Vedveer Arya, a 1997-batch officer of the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS), has been entrusted with the role of Additional Director on BPCL’s Board. The appointment is in compliance with the SEBI Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements (LODR) Regulations, 2015, ensuring full transparency to stakeholders.
In his new role, Arya will provide strategic financial guidance and support the company’s leadership in key decision-making processes. BPCL has confirmed that Arya is not debarred from holding the office of director by SEBI or any other regulatory authority and has no prior relationship with other directors or key managerial personnel at the company.

Professional Background of Vedveer Arya
Vedveer Arya holds a Master’s degree from the University of Delhi and has an extensive career in financial management within the Government of India. Some highlights of his distinguished career include:
- Joint Secretary & Additional Financial Adviser (R&D) at the Ministry of Defence
- Integrated Financial Adviser to the Southern Naval Command in Kochi and Southern Air Command in Thiruvananthapuram
- Director (Finance) at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in Hyderabad, where he contributed to critical programmes, including the Agni Missile project and other tactical missile systems
In addition to his government service, Arya is also recognized for authoring several books on Indian history and mathematics, reflecting his diverse expertise and intellectual contributions.
Departure of Dr. Sushma Agarwal
Dr. Sushma Agarwal, who served as an Independent Director on BPCL’s Board, concluded her tenure on March 10, 2026. Her contributions during her term have been acknowledged as instrumental in steering corporate governance and strategic initiatives at the company.
