35 IPS Officers in Maharashtra Fined Almost 4 Cr for Overstaying in Govt. Accommodation

Around 35 serving and retired IPS officers in Maharashtra have been fined with Rs 3.82 Cr for overstaying in government accommodation even after being transferred from that position.
The list includes two former Commissioners of Mumbai Police, four serving Police Commissioners, two Additional Directors-General and a former Director General of Police-rank officer.
As per the information obtained by The Indian Express under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the fine amount is calculated till the end of March 2021.
Under the rules, IPS officers who are transferred out of a post must vacate their official accommodation for their successor in the post within a specified time, failing which they are liable to pay a fine.
