In a recent development, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has officially approved the appointment of Ajitkumar Vasantrao Sontakke, an officer from the Indian Ordnance Factories Service (IOFS) of the 2009 batch, as the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) for the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL). This key position falls under the oversight of the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India.
The Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) issued the order on May 10, detailing that Sontakke’s new role is a lateral shift and his tenure will extend up to May 20, 2027. This period represents the maximum admissible stretch of seven years away from his original cadre. His appointment is effective from the date he assumes charge of his new post, or until further orders are issued.
Sontakke is currently serving as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs. His transfer to NPCIL as CVO is part of a strategic move to bolster the vigilance and oversight capabilities of the organization, which plays a crucial role in the country’s nuclear energy sector. This appointment underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring stringent oversight and governance within its key departments.
