In a significant move, Modi Government on Friday has been given one year extension to Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba. This information has been given in an order of the Ministry of Personnel.
This is the second extension given to him in this post. In 2019, Rajiv Gauba was appointed to the country’s top bureaucratic post for two years. He was given a one-year extension in August last year.
In an order issued on Friday, it was said that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension of service to Gauba, a 1982 batch IAS officer of Jharkhand cadre, as Cabinet Secretary for one more year after August 30, 2022.
It is said that Rajiv Gauba was instrumental in preparing the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019. Through this act, the state of Jammu and Kashmir was divided into two union territories by revoking the special status given to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Constitution. He has held many other responsibilities including Secretary in the Union Ministry of Urban Development, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs.
