Siddhartha Mohanty has been appointed as the Chairman of the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India by the Narendra Modi Government. He will be on this post until June 2024.
After that, Mr Mohanty will be the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the insurance behemoth until June 2025 as the government has also named him as the first chief executive of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) for the term beginning in June 2024 to June 2025.
LIC, the country’s largest insurer has decided to phase out the chairman post to align with other publicly traded corporations.
WHO IS MOHANTY
Mohanty is one of four Managing Directors at LIC and was given the additional responsibility of Chairmanship for a period of three months after MR Kumar’s tenure as Chairman ended on March 13.
He began his career with LIC as a direct recruit officer in 1985 and rose through the ranks to the top position.
Mohanty has a postgraduate degree in political science and a degree in law. Mohanty also holds a postgraduate degree in business management and is a licentiate from the Insurance Institute of India.
On March 23, 2023, the Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB) recommended the candidature of Siddhartha Mohanty as the next Chairman of LIC of India after it evaluated four candidates for the top LIC Job.
Mohanty work areas include marketing, human relations, investments, and legal sector.
