Cabinet Secretary TV Somanathan, a 1987-batch IAS officer, has expressed concern over delays in decision-making across government departments. Noting inefficiencies, he has directed all secretaries to expedite processes and adhere to streamlined procedures.
Dr. Somanathan highlighted a two-year-old order limiting decision-making to four layers to reduce bureaucratic delays. Despite its intent to enhance efficiency, many ministries have failed to comply.
In response, he issued a firm reminder, instructing ministries to implement the directive without fail. He emphasized that compliance with the four-layer rule is mandatory and must be followed without exception. This move underscores the government’s focus on reducing red tape and ensuring the timely execution of policies and projects.
