In a decisive step to bolster India’s judiciary, the Central Government has approved the appointment of 13 judges to nine different High Courts across the country. These appointments include both sitting Additional Judges being elevated to permanent positions and new appointments drawn from the Bar and judicial services.
The move comes at a critical juncture as many High Courts are grappling with an increasing backlog of cases. The newly appointed judges, who bring with them a wealth of experience as seasoned advocates and judicial officers, are expected to play a key role in enhancing the efficiency of justice delivery and helping reduce delays in case disposal.
Among the notable appointments, Yarenjungla Longkumer has made history by becoming the first woman High Court judge from Nagaland.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by Union Minister of State (I/C) for Law & Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal, who shared the list of new appointments. These judges are expected to bring fresh perspectives and further strengthen the judicial system in their respective High Courts.
This latest development underscores the government’s continued commitment to judicial reforms and its resolve to ensure the swift and fair disposal of pending cases, ultimately advancing access to justice for all citizens.
