1991 batch IAS officer of Odisha cadre, Mr. Saurabh Garg, has been appointed as the Secretary of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) at the central level.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his appointment, according to an order issued by the Ministry of Personnel on Thursday.
Mr. Garg is currently serving as Secretary in the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment.
He will hold his new position until his superannuation on July 31, 2024. Following this, he will continue on a contract basis for one year or until further orders, whichever comes first. His continuation in government service post-retirement will adhere to the usual terms and conditions applicable to retired government officers.
In addition to his new role, Mr. Garg will also serve as the Secretary to the National Statistical Commission, as specified in the personnel ministry’s order. His extensive experience in various administrative capacities is expected to significantly contribute to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
