In a significant development, the central government has terminated the services of Rameshwar Prasad Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), with immediate effect.
According to an official order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved Gupta’s premature termination. A 1987-batch IAS officer from the Gujarat cadre, Gupta had assumed charge as CMD of SECI in June 2023 for a two-year tenure, which was slated to end in June 2025.

No official reason has been cited for the early termination, which comes nearly a month before the completion of his scheduled term.
