Mr. D. Magesh Kumar, a Deputy Inspector General (DIG)-rank IPS officer and Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, North, Greater Chennai Police, has been suspended following a sexual harassment complaint filed by a woman traffic police personnel working under him.

Complaint and Investigation
Sources in the department revealed that two women police constables had submitted complaints against Mr. Magesh Kumar to Director General of Police (DGP) and Head of Police Force, Mr. Shankar Jiwal (1990-batch IPS officer). The complaints were forwarded to the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) on sexual harassment for investigation.
After a preliminary inquiry, the committee recommended further action. Based on the DGP’s direction, the Home Department ordered his suspension, pending further investigation.
Background and Charges
Mr. Magesh Kumar previously served as DIG/Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, South, Greater Chennai Police, until December 2024, before being transferred to his current position. Following the allegations, he was placed under the vacancy reserve category before being officially suspended.
A department source stated that the charges are of a serious nature, and his actions have tarnished the image of the police force. The officer may also face criminal proceedings as the case progresses.
