Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai inaugurated the City Gas Infrastructure Project in Raipur, marking a significant step toward providing cleaner, affordable, and environmentally friendly fuel to households, businesses, and vehicles in Raipur, Balodabazar, and Gariaband districts.

The project aims to supply piped natural gas (PNG) to homes and commercial establishments, while making compressed natural gas (CNG) available for vehicles, benefiting domestic consumers, industries, and transport operators.

Expanding Clean Energy Access for Citizens

During the inauguration, Chief Minister Sai flagged off CNG-equipped vehicles and personally interacted with the first PNG consumer of Raipur Municipal Corporation, Mrs. Poonam Chaubey. The initiative is designed to:

  • Reduce household fuel costs
  • Provide safe and reliable energy supply
  • Promote environmentally sustainable alternatives
  • Support green energy initiatives inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision

The CM emphasised that the state government is committed to extending world-class facilities not only in urban centers but also across rural regions, ensuring that residents experience services comparable to metro cities.

Environmental and Economic Benefits of the Project

The City Gas Infrastructure Project is expected to deliver multiple advantages:

  • Cleaner Air: Use of CNG in vehicles will reduce urban pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Cost Efficiency: Households and businesses will benefit from lower energy costs compared to conventional fuels.
  • Green Development: Supports the state’s focus on green energy and sustainable infrastructure.

Chief Minister Sai encouraged citizens to adopt clean fuels to contribute to pollution reduction and participate in building a “green, developed, and self-reliant Chhattisgarh.”

Strategic Infrastructure Expansion

The project is being implemented across Raipur, Balodabazar, and Gariaband districts. It includes:

  • PNG pipeline distribution for households and commercial establishments
  • CNG availability for vehicles
  • Integration with industrial and urban transport sectors

The inauguration was attended by senior officials of HCG Group, including Managing Director Rahul Chopra, Director Rajiv Mathur, and Chairman Deepak Sawant, along with representatives from GAIL India and local industry stakeholders.

Government’s Vision for Sustainable Urban Development

Chief Minister Sai highlighted that recent state budget allocations prioritise infrastructure development, ensuring modern amenities reach urban and rural populations alike. He stated that integrating clean energy solutions with economic growth and environmental conservation is central to the state’s “green energy” strategy.

The City Gas Infrastructure Project is a flagship initiative in Chhattisgarh’s efforts to provide sustainable, cost-effective energy solutions, improve urban air quality, and support long-term development across multiple districts.
