Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Friday announced a one-year waiver of mandi fees for rice exporters during the India International Rice Summit held at a private resort in Raipur. The decision is expected to benefit both farmers and exporters, strengthening the state’s position in domestic and international rice markets.
Historic Boost for Chhattisgarh’s Rice Sector
The Chief Minister described the announcement as a landmark step for Chhattisgarh, highlighting the state’s rich heritage in rice cultivation. Speaking at the event, CM Sai said, “Our ancestors aptly called Chhattisgarh the ‘Rice Bowl,’ and today the state is realizing the true essence of this title. This waiver will provide significant support to rice exporters and farmers alike, promoting sustainable growth in the sector.”
During the summit, CM Sai also inaugurated the regional office of the Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), emphasizing the growing demand for organic products. He noted that Dantewada has begun cultivating organic rice varieties, which require further promotion to meet increasing global demand.
International Participation and Recognition
The second edition of the India International Rice Summit saw participation from buyers across 12 countries and embassy delegations from six nations. CM Sai welcomed foreign delegates, stating that such international engagement enhances Chhattisgarh’s global recognition. He highlighted fragrant rice varieties such as Jeeraful and Dubraj from the Sarguja region, noting their unique aroma and global appeal.
Strengthening Rice Exports
Chhattisgarh currently exports around 1 lakh metric tons of rice to approximately 90 countries. The Chief Minister emphasized that the state government’s new industrial policy supports small-scale industries, thereby strengthening rice processing and export infrastructure. Focus on Innovation and Technology
CM Sai toured the rice-focused exhibition during the summit, reviewing different rice varieties, regional cultivation practices, and innovations aimed at boosting productivity. He praised government initiatives promoting modern technology in rice production, emphasizing that such innovations will directly benefit farmers while enhancing the state’s economy.
