Raipur: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Monday inaugurated the regular operations of the State Hangar at the Swami Vivekananda Airport complex near Mana Camp. Following the inauguration, CM Sai departed from the hangar for his official visit to Gujarat. The launch marks a significant step in streamlining VVIP aircraft operations in the state.
Enhanced VVIP Movement and Passenger Convenience
The commencement of the State Hangar is expected to greatly improve the management of VVIP arrivals and departures in Chhattisgarh. The initiative ensures smoother operations for special aircraft, while eliminating the inconvenience faced by regular passengers at the airport terminal during VVIP movements. Airport authorities highlighted that this facility would now allow separate arrangements for VVIP aircraft without disrupting the daily operations of commercial flights.

Construction and Clearances
The hangar was originally constructed in 2012 by the Public Works Department (PWD) at an estimated cost of ₹6.50 crore. However, operationalization required approvals from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). These approvals were recently granted on October 31, 2025, enabling the hangar to begin regular operations.
State-of-the-Art Facility for Aircraft Maintenance
The newly constructed State Hangar is connected to the airport runway via Taxiway ‘E’, allowing seamless movement for VVIP aircraft. In addition to VVIP operations, the hangar will be used for the maintenance of state-owned aircraft and helicopters, reducing dependence on rented hangars within the airport complex. Authorities emphasized that this facility will enhance operational efficiency and ensure that aircraft maintenance meets high safety and technical standards.
Dignitaries Present at the Inauguration
The inauguration ceremony was attended by notable officials including MLA Motilal Sahu, Mana Camp Nagar Panchayat President Sanjay Yadav, Chief Minister’s Secretary Rahul Bhagat, Deputy Secretary Suraj Sahu, along with other senior officials and representatives. The presence of these dignitaries highlighted the importance of the project in improving Chhattisgarh’s aviation infrastructure.
