Raipur: In a major boost for farmers in Chhattisgarh, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has announced that the Central Government has approved the procurement of tur (pigeon pea), urad, moong, soybean, and groundnut at Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the Kharif Marketing Year 2025–26. The decision is being widely hailed as a historic and farmer-friendly step that will provide long-term economic security to cultivators across the state.
The Chief Minister expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for approving the proposal. He said the decision would serve as a strong financial support system for lakhs of farmers in Chhattisgarh and ensure they receive fair prices for their produce.
Boost to Pulses and Oilseeds Cultivation
Chief Minister Sai noted that MSP-based procurement of pulses and oilseeds would encourage farmers to increase the cultivation of these crops. Until now, many farmers hesitated to grow pulses and oilseeds due to price volatility and market uncertainty. With assured government procurement at MSP, farmers will now be protected from market fluctuations and price risks.
The move is also expected to promote crop diversification in the state, reducing over-dependence on traditional crops and creating a more balanced agricultural system.
Benefits for Soil Health and Edible Oil Production
Agricultural experts point out that pulse crops such as tur, urad, and moong play a crucial role in improving soil fertility by fixing nitrogen naturally, thereby reducing input costs for farmers. On the other hand, oilseed crops like soybean and groundnut provide additional income opportunities while contributing to increased domestic edible oil production.
With assured MSP procurement, the acreage under pulses and oilseeds is expected to rise significantly in the coming seasons.
Strengthening Rural Economy
The Chief Minister emphasized that the decision would strengthen the rural economy of Chhattisgarh. Higher farm incomes will directly enhance purchasing power in villages, generate employment opportunities, and support local trade and businesses. This, in turn, will accelerate overall rural development.
State Government to Ensure Smooth Procurement
Chief Minister Sai assured that the state government would work in close coordination with the Centre to strengthen procurement mechanisms in line with official guidelines. Necessary arrangements will be made to ensure that farmers do not face any inconvenience during the procurement process.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, he said the Chhattisgarh government will continue to work with full dedication to safeguard farmers’ interests and promote sustainable agricultural growth in the state.
