Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has announced the establishment of five new government medical colleges in the state, marking a major step forward for healthcare education and medical infrastructure. The announcement was made by the CM himself on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, signaling a significant development for students and the overall health system in Chhattisgarh.
New Medical Colleges to Be Built Across Five Districts
The new medical colleges will be established in the following locations:
- Manendragarh
- Kabirdham
- Janjgir‑Champa
- Geedam (Dantewada)
- Kunkuri (Jashpur)
This move aims to strengthen medical education across diverse regions of the state and reduce the need for students to migrate elsewhere for quality medical studies.

Boost to Medical Education and Local Opportunities
According to official information, each of the new colleges will offer 50 MBBS seats, adding 250 new medical seats to the state’s capacity. Currently, Chhattisgarh has 10 government medical colleges with a total of 1,430 MBBS seats.
After the addition of the five new colleges:
- Total MBBS seats will increase from 1,430 to 1,680
- Government medical colleges will rise from 10 to 15
This expansion is expected to provide greater access to medical education and create new opportunities for aspiring doctors across the state.
Construction and Faculty Recruitment Underway
Construction work for the new medical college campuses has already begun, and building projects are in progress at all five locations.
To support academic requirements, the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC) is conducting the recruitment of 125 Assistant Professors for these colleges. Faculty appointments and staff onboarding are also underway to ensure the colleges are fully functional soon.
Strengthening Healthcare Infrastructure in Every Region
In his social media post on X, CM Sai emphasized that the initiative is aimed at preparing future doctors while also ensuring better healthcare services in every region of the state. He stated that the new institutions will not only train medical professionals but also enhance access to quality health care at the local level.
Additional Expansion: New Nursing Colleges
In addition to the medical colleges, the state government has announced that 12 new government nursing colleges will be opened soon. This move is designed to further strengthen healthcare education and improve the availability of skilled nursing professionals throughout Chhattisgarh.
