Raipur: Chhattisgarh’s railway infrastructure is set to receive a major push with an allocation of ₹7,470 crore in the Union Budget 2026–27. The announcement marks a significant step toward strengthening rail connectivity, modernising stations, and improving passenger and freight movement across the state.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said that due to the efforts of the “double-engine government,” Chhattisgarh is now emerging as one of the leading states in railway development.
Investment Jumps Nearly 24 Times Since 2014
Highlighting the scale of growth, the Chief Minister said that between 2009 and 2014, Chhattisgarh received an average railway allocation of just ₹311 crore per year. This figure has now increased nearly 24 times, reflecting the Centre’s strong focus on rail infrastructure in the state.
At present, railway projects worth ₹51,080 crore are underway in Chhattisgarh, covering new railway lines, station redevelopment, and safety-related works.
Bastar Rail Projects to Transform Tribal Connectivity
The Chief Minister described the Raoghat–Jagdalpur rail project as a historic initiative for the Bastar region. The project is expected to significantly improve connectivity in tribal areas and provide a fresh impetus to regional development.
Additionally, approval for the Parmalaksa–Kharsia corridor and new freight corridors will enhance both passenger travel and goods transportation in the coming years.
Passenger Train Services Likely to Double
According to the Chief Minister, once these projects are completed, the number of passenger trains operating in the state is expected to nearly double, improving accessibility for remote and urban areas alike.
Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, 32 railway stations in Chhattisgarh are being modernised. Stations such as Dongargarh (Phase-1), Ambikapur, Bhanupratappur, Bhilai, and Urkura have already been redeveloped with modern facilities.
Vande Bharat and Safety Upgrades Strengthen Rail Network
Chhattisgarh has also witnessed the launch of two pairs of Vande Bharat Express trains and one pair of Amrit Bharat Express, offering faster, safer, and more comfortable travel options.
Since 2014, the state has achieved major milestones, including:
- Construction of around 1,200 km of new railway tracks
- 100% railway electrification
- Development of 170 flyovers and underpasses
- Installation of advanced safety systems such as KAVACH
Economic Growth Beyond Railways
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai emphasised that railway development is not limited to tracks and trains alone. He said the massive investment will boost trade, industry, tourism, employment, and overall quality of life for citizens.
He expressed gratitude to the Central Government for what he termed a historic investment that will play a transformative role in Chhattisgarh’s long-term development.
