Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Wednesday inaugurated the second phase of the state’s rural bus service scheme, aimed at improving connectivity to remote and Naxal-affected areas. The new phase will link over 180 villages through 23 newly designated routes and 24 buses, building on the success of the first phase launched by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Expanding Rural Connectivity
The first phase of the scheme, inaugurated on October 4, 2025, connected 250 villages across 34 routes, providing villagers with easier access to block headquarters and essential services. Building on this momentum, the second phase was formally launched from the Chief Minister’s official residence in Raipur, with CM Sai virtually flagging off the buses.
Speaking about the initiative, CM Sai emphasized the importance of expanding transport facilities to remote areas, stating, “Through this scheme, buses are being operated even in villages affected by Naxalites. The new phase will connect 180 villages across 23 routes, improving mobility and accessibility for our citizens.”
Direct Impact on Villagers
Many villagers who participated in the launch arrived on buses from the first phase of the scheme, highlighting the practical benefits of enhanced connectivity. Residents traveling via the Sukma-Dornapal-Konta route, covering approximately 110 kilometers, noted that their journey to administrative centers, which was previously challenging and time-consuming, has now become significantly easier.
Villagers expressed their appreciation for the program, stating that it has not only reduced travel time but also made transportation more affordable and convenient. Officials highlighted that the initiative strengthens social and economic equality by connecting rural communities to cities, educational institutions, health facilities, and markets.
Focus on Naxal-Affected Areas
A significant aspect of the scheme is its emphasis on Naxal-affected regions, ensuring that even conflict-prone areas benefit from improved public transport. The initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to inclusive development and the integration of remote villages into the mainstream economy.
Looking Ahead
With both phases operational, the rural bus service scheme in Chhattisgarh is expected to play a pivotal role in bridging infrastructural gaps, fostering social cohesion, and enhancing access to critical services for thousands of villagers across the state.
