Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Sunday launched the Chief Minister Electricity Bill Payment Solution Scheme 2026 in Raipur, aiming to provide relief to lakhs of electricity consumers struggling with pending bills.
The scheme was inaugurated at the auditorium of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Medical College Hospital in the state capital. During the event, the Chief Minister handed over benefit certificates to selected consumers and urged citizens across the state to register and take advantage of the initiative.
Financial Relief for Consumers
Under the scheme, the state government plans to provide relief worth ₹757 crore to around 28.42 lakh electricity consumers across Chhattisgarh. The initiative primarily targets low- and middle-income households as well as agricultural consumers who have accumulated electricity dues over time.
The government has also announced a 100% waiver on the surcharge and up to a 75% concession on the principal outstanding amount to encourage consumers to clear their electricity bills.
Subsidy Under Solar Scheme
During the programme, Chief Minister Sai also transferred ₹8.79 crore as subsidy to 2,931 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme. The scheme promotes rooftop solar installations and aims to help households generate their own electricity.
According to the Chief Minister, the scheme is gaining a strong response in the state, with nearly 36,000 households already connected to the solar initiative. He also highlighted the growing participation of women’s self-help groups as solar panel vendors, calling it a positive step toward rural empowerment.
Electricity Now a Basic Necessity
Addressing the gathering, Sai said electricity has become an essential part of modern life, and many families struggle to pay bills on time due to financial constraints. Delayed payments often lead to rising dues because of surcharges, making it difficult for consumers to clear the total amount.
He noted that the government introduced the relief scheme to ease this burden and help consumers settle their outstanding bills.
Registration and Payment Details
To avail benefits under the scheme, consumers must register and deposit at least 10% of the pending amount during registration. The remaining amount can be paid in installments, and no additional surcharge will be applied during the repayment period.
The scheme will remain operational until June 30, 2026.
Government’s Power Supply Commitment
The Chief Minister also highlighted that under the leadership of Narendra Modi, electricity connectivity has expanded significantly across the country since 2014, reaching thousands of previously unelectrified villages.
He added that Chhattisgarh currently generates nearly 30,000 MW of electricity and the state government remains committed to ensuring a reliable and uninterrupted power supply.
Sai also appealed to citizens to use electricity responsibly and avoid unnecessary consumption.
The event was attended by several public representatives and officials, including the local MLA, municipal leaders, and senior officers from the state energy department.
