Varanasi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the ‘School Chalo Abhiyan’ from Composite School Shivpur, Varanasi, marking the start of a state-wide initiative to increase student enrollment in government schools for the 2026-27 academic session. The campaign aims to ensure that every child receives quality education while distributing essential textbooks and school bags.

Two-Phase Campaign to Increase Enrollment

The School Chalo Abhiyan will be conducted in two phases:

  • Phase 1: April 1 – April 15, 2026
  • Phase 2: July 1 – July 15, 2026

During the launch, CM Yogi personally distributed school bags and textbooks to students and interacted with them to encourage regular attendance. The initiative targets increasing enrollment in parishad (government) schools, ensuring no child is left out of the education system.

Focus on Quality Education and Awareness

CM Yogi highlighted that education is the real power of the future and emphasized the state government’s commitment to improving school infrastructure and learning outcomes. He stated that before 2017, government schools were in poor condition, many lacked basic facilities, and student enrollment was declining due to inadequate attention and rampant cheating practices.

Through this campaign, the Basic Education Department aims to ensure every household receives the message of the importance of education, turning the initiative into a public movement for universal schooling.

Participation Across the State

Along with Varanasi, the campaign is being rolled out across all districts of Uttar Pradesh under the leadership of District Magistrates. Key activities include:

  • Public rallies and awareness drives
  • Cultural programs in schools
  • Distribution of textbooks and school bags
  • Recognition of meritorious students and schools

State Education Director Monika Rani confirmed that the campaign also includes cultural programs and community engagement to encourage student participation and foster a learning-friendly environment.

Government Initiatives and Support

The Uttar Pradesh government is investing over ₹80,000 crore in school education over the past nine years. CM Yogi stated that teachers are the backbone of education reforms, and their dedication has driven successful initiatives like Operation Kayakalp, which has significantly improved school infrastructure and learning outcomes.

During the Varanasi program, five ‘Nipun Vidyarthi’ students and five ‘Nipun Schools’ were honored. The CM also released a booklet detailing educational innovations and achievements, highlighting the government’s ongoing commitment to quality education for all children aged 6 to 14 years.

Call to Action for Society

CM Yogi appealed to all sections of society to actively participate in the School Chalo Abhiyan, ensuring that every child is enrolled in school and benefits from quality education. The campaign emphasizes community involvement, teacher dedication, and government support as key pillars to make the initiative a success.

Impact and Vision

The School Chalo Abhiyan is expected to:

  • Increase enrollment in government schools
  • Distribute textbooks and educational resources to all students
  • Promote awareness about the importance of education
  • Recognize and motivate students and schools for excellence

By combining awareness, incentives, and structured programs, the initiative aims to ensure that no child is left behind, strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to education as a foundation for social and economic development.
