Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath on Monday underscored the pressing need for Uttar Pradesh-specific satellite data during a meeting with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman Dr. V. Narayanan in Lucknow. Highlighting the gravity of the issue, he noted that around 300 people die annually in the state due to lightning strikes. He proposed that cutting-edge satellite technology be harnessed to provide timely and accurate alerts to prevent such tragedies.

ISRO to Explore Technological Solutions
In response, Dr. Narayanan assured the Chief Minister that ISRO would take up the matter with due seriousness and initiate steps toward developing a viable and timely solution. He acknowledged the potential of satellite-based systems to support the state in lightning detection and alert mechanisms.
Space Technology for State Development
Dr. Narayanan also shared with the Chief Minister the significant advancements ISRO has made in remote sensing and related technologies. These include weather forecasting, forest and green cover monitoring, groundwater profiling, mapping, and climate change analysis—tools that could greatly aid Uttar Pradesh in planning and development.

The meeting highlighted the growing collaboration between the Uttar Pradesh government and ISRO. The Chief Minister’s proposal reflects a forward-thinking approach to integrating space technology into public safety and disaster preparedness efforts, reaffirming his commitment to safeguarding lives and promoting scientific solutions for the state’s challenges.
